Nature preservation plans being proposed by Labours Shadow Environment Secretary
Labour shadow environment secretary Sue Hayman proposed regulating sport hunts.
Each year thousands of acres in Scotland is prepared for sport hunting and the Labour party has brought to attention the environmental effects of the practice. The shooting season destroys vast areas of plant and animal life. The environmental damage also increases risk of wildfires and flooding.
The RSPB defended the sport hunt for its economic benefits to the local community.
Labour, however, has prioritised long term sustainability and animal welfare over perceived economic benefits. Similar to the fox hunting ban, there is wide support among labour supporters for the new proposals.
