NHS Can Be Privatised Due To Lib-Dems Abstaining On Key Vote

Liberal Democrats Fail To Support Motion That Would Prevent The Privatisation Of The NHS

Tory MPs voted down an amendment to the Queen’s Speech that attempted to prevent NHS  privatisation in any future trade deals with the United States. The Liberal Democrats abstained from the vote but had they supported the motion, the privatisation of the NHS could have been off the agenda.

MPs from Labour, the SNP, Plaid Cymru, and the Green Party,  supported the motion to prevent privatisation but were defeated by a margin of 28, with Conservative MPs, Independent MPs, and DUP MPs voting against it. All nineteen Liberal Democrats abstained from the vote, including the former Labour and Tory MPs who defected to the Lib-Dems: Chuka Ummuna, Luiciana Berger, Angela Smith, and Heidi ‘crocodile tears’ Allen.

The Liberal Democrats, while in coalition with the Conservative party voted to privatise certain NHS services.

Jonathan Ashworth and Jeremy Corbyn criticised the actions of the Lib Dems and Tories following the vote.

Twitter user also disseminated memes to highlight the individuals responsible for the bill not being passed.
